Overview

Features & Capabilities

Not Boring Timer is a readable, minutes-only timer built for everyday use. It represents time as a single dimension—minutes—so there’s nothing to lose track of. When time expires, it flips to count up, giving you a quick sense of how much has passed, and you can scroll to 0 to switch to a stopwatch.

Not Boring Timer also features a next-generation 3D UI with game-like animations and sounds, large digits readable from across the room, optional screen-on, and skins that change the look. Extras include home-screen widgets for quick access to daily timers and a privacy-first, ad-free experience. The Super!Boring membership unlocks all Not Boring apps, skins, and extras—funded by members with no ads, no data gathering, and no tracking.

User Reviews

The Not Boring Timer is praised for its visually appealing, minimal design and simple, easy-to-use interface that provides a fun timer experience. However, it is hampered by functional limits: a 90-minute cap with no hours or seconds, reliance on a subscription for core features (widgets and longer timers), and inconsistent widget behavior. Users also note missing Dynamic Island/lock screen/watch support, which reduces practicality for real-time countdown needs. Overall, strong aesthetics but significant usability and monetization drawbacks.
Pros
  • Visually appealing design with bold numbers and a minimalist UI.
  • Simple, easy-to-use interface that feels intuitive.
  • Fun, vibey timer experience that stands out aesthetically.
Cons
  • Timer is limited to 90 minutes max (no longer durations or hours) and has no second-level precision.
  • No seconds support; timer increments only in whole minutes, reducing precision for many uses.
  • Core features heavily gated behind a subscription (widgets, longer timers, and other premium features) leading to upsell and perceived paywall.
  • Widgets and related features often don’t work reliably (e.g., not starting from the widget, dependence on opening the app).
  • Lack of Dynamic Island/lock screen/watch integration and live activities support reduces usefulness for real-time countdowns.
Recent reviews
No live activities or persistent notification. Hard to keep track of the timer. Not sure why I would use this over the stock timer.
