User Reviews

User reviews praise OpenDyslexic for readability, ease of installation, and its free/open-source, cross-platform nature, and for working in apps that support custom fonts. However, results are highly variable: it does not work in all apps or on all iOS devices, setup/activation can be unclear, and some users must use extra steps or extensions. Overall, positive potential is tempered by app and device compatibility and inconsistent behavior.
Pros
  • Easy to install with quick setup.
  • Readability improvement for dyslexic users; described as a lifesaver.
  • Free and open-source with cross-platform availability.
  • Works in apps that support custom installed fonts.
Cons
  • Not universal across apps; many apps (e.g., Apple Books) don't support custom fonts.
  • Activation/setup is unclear or frequently fails.
  • Compatibility issues on iPhone/iOS (not working on certain devices/versions).
  • Requires extra steps or extensions for some usage (e.g., Safari browser extension).
  • Some users experience no visible changes or fonts not applying despite installation.

I’m Dyslexic, and i recently learned that dyslexic fonts exist i was really excited to try this out because well i thought this font looked pretty cool. The only problem i have is how in the world to i use it? like i have no idea how to put the font on my ipad and i have looked on everything and nothing works or helps.

Once you install the font nothing happens and the app provides no instructions on how to get your phone to use the font Edit: this app only works with Office, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. Why leave that information out?

Free and I’m using it with “Make It Big” app to make messages accessible. Really easy to install the font. Thanks!
