User Reviews

Code App on iPad delivers a strong, VS Code-like IDE with solid Git integration and an all-in-one workflow at a good price. However, reviewers repeatedly report bugs across views, editing and text-handling issues, and occasional stale run results. There’s clear demand for newer language/version support and tooling. Overall, it’s a powerful, appealing option that’s hampered by reliability and update gaps.
Pros
  • VS Code-like IDE feel on iPad with familiarity for code editing
  • Strong Git integration and version control features
  • All-in-one IDE: clone repos, write code, and run tests/tests remotely within a single app
  • One-time purchase pricing offers good value and perceived affordability
  • Built-in Node.js terminal for running code locally without switching apps
Cons
  • Widespread bugs and instability across multiple views, impacting reliability
  • Editing experience is flaky or limited, including poor text selection/copy-paste support and unreliable bracket/auto-complete behavior
  • Code execution sometimes doesn’t reflect edits and runs stale output (e.g., HTML/JS/CSS showing old code)
  • Requests for updates to language/tool versions (Python 3.x updates, Rust and Go support) indicate lag in current language support

I love this, but feel it would need robust quality control vetting for it to be viable as a reliable tool. Really hope to see that happen. Pain points for me at the moment are: 1.) SSH servers opening up at the root in file explorer instead of home (or any desired folder), hidden files showing even with the setting off, cluttering the file explorer, 2.) Issues with input not registering in the editor/terminal; generally have to click into another field and then back again to get it to resume working, 3.) files/file explorer not registering updates unless the app is restarted;

Not even one part of this application works fine! It doesn’t have autocompletion, doesn’t revert changes in Git, and doesn’t even commit

For as much as it does work, it doesn’t work well. The “Hello World” default tends to override file changes when making new files…. so you have to open and close the app or rename the file a couple times for the state to save the actual changes, so it’s not advised to use this app for anything important until they fix that.
