Im learning morse code easily using this app

Ok when learning letters but keying words, the straight key has a delay on my iPhone 15 pro max. It gives me errors every time due to the delay. I can key just fine on other keys, but this one is downright frustrating. I’ve played with the settings trying to get it right but to no avail. I know I’m new but I can key about 10 wpm on other platforms such as a Morserino. I’m only using my phone and phone speaker, the programmer says this should work but it does not on my phone.
