AppHearing - Assistive hearing

Personal Sound Amplify Product

Features & Capabilities

AppHearing is a sound amplifier app and Chrome extension with customizable assistive hearing features such as Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC), Automatic Gain Control (AGC), Automatic Noise Suppression (ANS), Dynamic Range Compression (DRC), and an equalizer (EQ). It amplifies and clarifies speech and ambient sounds captured by your microphone and plays back through headphones or Bluetooth speakers, enabling a personalized listening experience.

Designed for users with mild to moderate hearing loss, AppHearing adapts to your preferences to enhance important ambient sounds and voices. It uses algorithms like AEC, AGC, ANS, and DRC to improve clarity. Note: AppHearing is not approved as a medical device and should not be used as a hearing aid with a doctor's prescription.

User Reviews

Users largely praise AppHearing for being helpful for hearing loss with an intuitive, ad-free interface. However, multiple reviews cite stability and audio-quality problems, including crashes, static, and noticeable latency. Pricing changes and compatibility concerns with certain devices also recurring themes. Overall, the app is valued for real-world hearing assistance, but reliability and business-model changes are key pain points.
Pros
  • Highly beneficial for users with hearing loss; helps users interact and perceive ambient sounds.
  • Ad-free experience and intuitive UI; does what it promises.
  • Positive enthusiasm and endorsements from users, including strong credibility of its effectiveness.
  • Works with external hardware to enhance hearing experience.
Cons
  • Stability and reliability issues: frequent crashes and bugs/static.
  • Audio quality problems and noticeable latency: static/creepy sounds and echo-related delays.
  • Pricing changes: forced subscription and shift away from older version.
  • Device compatibility issues: not working on some devices (e.g., iPhone 11) or wired headphones.

It works as advertised and it is free. It is a good quality app. The developer’s email address is not working now, but in the past the developer was responsive to feedback.

It’s a nice app, but can’t get it to play thro my camera apps. Which is the reason I originally wanted the app in the first place. I’m still searching for a good app that will amplify the sound of my camera apps, if anyone knows of any that might help I’d be most grateful. Thanks

I bought the entire old version and I was enjoying the application and suddenly the version was canceled and I was asked for a monthly subscription and also the new version no longer accepts Bluetooth only the wired headset
