User Reviews

Reviewers consistently praise the Gettysburg Battle Auto Tour for its GPS-guided, self-paced navigation, engaging narration, and well-researched content that makes the battlefield come alive. It’s easy to use and keeps you on track, offering good value and a flexible alternative to guided tours. However, several users report reliability issues: occasional GPS misfires, stability crashes, audio gaps, and signal limitations that interrupt the experience. Overall, it’s a strong, informative option for a customizable battlefield visit when stable performance is ensured.
Pros
  • GPS-guided, auto-triggered navigation that tracks your location on the battlefield.
  • Easy-to-follow driving directions with the ability to tour at your own pace.
  • Engaging, well-narrated content with rich historical stories and context.
  • Comprehensive, well-researched information at each stop, making new areas accessible.
  • Flexible, self-guided experience and value, usable for multiple tours within the same app.
Cons
  • GPS/navigation can be unreliable at times, misdirecting you or not triggering correctly.
  • The app can crash or freeze, requiring restarts and causing interruptions.
  • Audio can go silent or have gaps between landmarks, disrupting flow.
  • Signal limitations in some areas, making offline use or consistent performance difficult.
Recent reviews
I was looking for a tour that would show me a map of my progress on the battlefield while also giving me the gps-triggered narrative. While I appreciated the clear and no-drama contextualized narrative of the highlights at and between stops, it took me 30 minutes of struggling to connect the audio tour to my Apple CarPlay in the parking lot of the Visitors Center that I finally clicked the right button which told me the app wasn’t optimized for CarPlay and Androids. Instead, I was informed I could still follow my progress on my iPhone. That might be fine if I had someone to hold it and direct me. But I was touring the battlefield alone. If you’re using Apple CarPlay or an Android, avoid this app.

This auto tour is a basic tour that gives average information on the battle. It misses major points of the battle such as Lee’s headquarters even though you drive right past this important location. The NPS paper map is just as good for a general feel for the battle.
