Dawn - Bahá'í Writings

For Your Daily Obligations

Features & Capabilities

Dawn is an elegant, easy-to-use app that helps Bahá'í followers meet daily obligations: reading the Writings, reciting Obligatory Prayers, and reciting the Greatest Name. It curates a daily selection of Writings from the Báb or Bahá’u’lláh, with brief excerpts and links to the authorized Bahá'í Reference Library for deeper study. Other features include a Qiblih compass, a 95 Alláh-u-Abhá counter, the Badí Calendar, and local sunrise/sunset times to guide your daily practice.

Daily reminders can be set for dawn, noon, sunset, or midnight, with gentle haptic feedback and smooth transitions. The app also supports bookmarking, sharing, and easy access to references, making Dawn a practical companion for study and devotion anywhere you are.

User Reviews

Users praise Dawn for its beautiful, intuitive design and all-in-one functionality (writings, prayers, compass, 95 counter, calendar) with direct source links, plus customization like greetings and dark mode. However, recurring concerns include the compass/Qiblih accuracy (east-pointing or confusing pointer) and requests for enhancements such as reminders and a library of full texts. The app generally delivers a spiritual, streamlined experience but could improve in navigation feedback and content breadth. Some users noted occasional glitches and outdated quotes, but overall sentiment is positive.
Pros
  • Beautiful, intuitive design and UI/UX that feel calm and prayer-friendly.
  • All-in-one tool: prayers/writings, compass/Qiblih, 95 counter, calendar, and direct source links.
  • Contextual daily quotations with links to official references.
  • Personalization features like custom greetings and other thoughtful touches.
  • Dark mode and overall polished, accessible experience.
Cons
  • Compass/Qiblih accuracy issues (east-pointing or confusing movement).
  • Requests for reminders/notification features (sunset timing and other reminders).
  • Desire for a library of full texts (e.g., Hidden Words, Gleanings) to be included.
Recent reviews
Excellent. It’s great how the app offers context of the excerpts, including precise links to official source! Edit: The developers updated the Qiblih direction calculation to use the more accurate Great Circle method. Edit 2: The math appears right for determining the angle between the red pointer and the direction towards the Qiblih. However, the way the pointer moves as we turn is a bit confusing. Suggestion: Keep the arrow stationary, pointing up on the screen (could also be not shown), and allow the the compass to rotate with the same angle calculations used now. Edit 3: ^ That’s been long resolved. It appears that the app may have reached end of life as the dates and quotations no longer update. It’s still excellent, just need to go to he library to see prior quotations instead of a new one being presented each day. Edit 4: The dates and quotations are updating again.

I swipe right, and nothing happens. Is there a trick to get it to work? I’m on the latest iOS.
