Features & Capabilities

Randonautica is a quantum-random, intention-guided exploration experience. It generates a random location for you to visit based on an intention you set, turning exploration into a mysterious real-world adventure.

This Chrome extension brings the concept to your browser: generate random coordinates, embark on outdoor journeys, test how intention interacts with randomness, and connect with others through the in-app Discover feed. Step off screens, stay active, and discover new places near you.

User Reviews

Users broadly like the idea and the push to explore, but the experience is muddied by monetization, reliability, and safety concerns. Many reviews note that while the app can provide interesting, exploratory prompts and a clean interface, it now requires payments and microtransactions to use. Repeated issues include inaccurate or unsafe coordinates (often near private properties), technical bugs (calculations failing, tokens depleting), and privacy/content concerns. Some users report responsiveness to feedback and potential improvements, but overall satisfaction is tempered by cost, risk, and reliability.
Pros
  • Encourages outdoor exploration by sending you to new, unfamiliar places.
  • Well-designed concept/experience and generally intuitive for many users.
  • Developers have listened to feedback and made changes.
Cons
  • Paywalls and microtransactions make the app feel like a money grab; you often must pay to use it.
  • Coordinates are frequently inaccurate or unhelpful (often landing near private property or homes).
  • Safety concerns due to near-home locations, private property, and potentially disturbing results.
  • Frequent technical issues: app can get stuck calculating, won’t load, or tokens deplete unexpectedly.
  • Perceived stagnation in development with increased monetization rather than feature improvements.
Recent reviews
I thought I would give this app a shot. I’ve tried at least three or four times, and two of them placed the target point in the middle of a river. And then told me I could upgrade and spend money to not have a target point in a river. So far I haven’t observed anything interesting, fun, or weird. I’m not really sure what I should be expecting, but I really have not observed anything that made me want to actually pay for this app. I guess at the end of the day it’s a good excuse to go for a walk.

It’s sent me to some beautiful places but it’s frustrating that you can’t change the criteria around. For example, I’d love to be a “seeker” sometime and go on a “mystery” quest or a “connection” quest but I’m stuck in the same category I signed up with. It would be great to go back and change things occasionally and try something different.
