User Reviews

Multiple reviewers praise Learn music theory with Sonid as engaging and effective for building theory knowledge, with solid ideas and value from a free version. However, a dominant recurring issue is unreliable audio playback across devices, with sounds failing to play, stuttering, or disappearing. A few reports touch on performance problems and occasional confusion, but the core learning content remains appealing for many users. Overall, the app's strengths are its instructional concepts and user engagement; its weakness is inconsistent audio that hampers practice.
Pros
  • Engaging and effective for learning music theory; concepts stick.
  • Great ideas for music theory concepts and instructional design.
  • Users recommend the app and view it positively.
  • Free version provides good value and can lead to paid upgrades.
Cons
  • Audio playback issues: sound not working or inconsistent playback.

The triad section is broken and unpassable. The exercise asks you to build a full triad, but the app won't let you register three notes (section two) — so a correctly placed chord gets marked wrong every time. Entering the notes one at a time doesn't help either; it still counts a right answer as wrong. There is no way to complete the section, which means there's no way to progress in the app at all. This isn't difficulty, it's a straight-up bug that makes the core lessons unusable. I liked the one-concept-at-a-time approach up to this point, so fix the triad input and I'll gladly raise the rating. As it stands I can't recommend paying for something you can't actually finish.
