User Reviews

Bike Streets excels at low-stress routing and is driven by a strong, crowdsourced cycling community. Users praise safer, quieter routes, better navigation for cyclists than mainstream map apps, and features like Wander that support exploration and discovery of new city areas and local businesses. The app also supports advocacy by highlighting local street networks. However, recurring concerns temper enthusiasm: a steep subscription price, frequent crashes, privacy worries about account creation and data sharing, uneven geographic coverage, and data accuracy issues with outdated or missing bike lanes. In supported areas, it offers a compelling, community-focused biking experience.
Pros
  • Low-stress, safer routes with quiet streets and avoidance of high-traffic roads.
  • Crowdsourced, community-driven data with notes and updates that continually improve the map.
  • Better cycling routing than Google/Apple Maps, often finding calmer, bike-friendly paths.
  • Wander/Explorer feature enabling exploration and aimless rides with real-time route context.
  • Supports local advocacy and discovery of new routes and local businesses, fostering community.
Cons
  • High subscription price; many reviews say it's not worth the cost at present.
  • Frequent crashes and stability issues that hinder use.
  • Privacy and account friction—mandatory signup and data-sharing concerns.
  • Incomplete geographic coverage; suburbs or other cities aren’t well supported yet.
  • Data accuracy issues—wrong or missing bike lanes and routes with feedback sometimes going unanswered.

I’m enjoying using this app so far and helping add to the database of low stress streets in my city, but it would increase the functionality so much if there was a way to create a custom route to a destination from the Ride screen. So far the only options are using one of the suggested routes or freestyling your ride with no route.

I really appreciate this app; as someone who deeply concerned about the environment, and is really trying to use my bike rather than my car (but who is not actually good at biking or navigating), this has been super helpful.

I had a couple close calls a few years back, and it put me off riding in Denver for a very long time. Finally resolved to get back to the joy of cycling last month, and this app has made all the difference. My house is surrounded by massive thoroughfares that happen to have unprotected bike lanes painted on them, and I’ve never felt safe on them. I’ve felt strangely trapped in my neighborhood because of this issue. This app showed me a brilliant cut through at a local that put me on safer neighborhood streets with virtually no motorists. That alone is worth 5 stars. I genuinely have some peace of mind when I’m biking now. And the gamification aspect is fun.
