Features & Capabilities

Nail your weighting every dive. Enter your body weight, exposure suit, tank, and water type — get instant lead weight recommendations.

Quickly find out the suggested weight you should add when scuba diving in different environments. Based on PADI's Peak Performance Buoyancy basic weighting guideline*. Enter your weight in pounds or kilograms, and additionally set the type of water, tank, and exposure suit to dial in a suggested amount of weight to help keep you neutrally buoyant.

*Note that this app and the developer are not officially a representative of PADI. This app will give the user a good estimate of the weight needed for the environment selected, but there are always adjustments needed to achieve peak performance, based on gender, physique, exposure suit age, accessories, etc.

User Reviews

Buoyancy Calc is easy to use and serves as a quick, rough starting point for divers planning weights and adapting to different gear and water types. However, multiple reviews cite accuracy problems and safety risks from overweight estimates, limited configurability (tank options, body dimensions), reliability bugs, and occasional unit-conversion issues. It can be a helpful on-the-fly estimator, but should not replace professional buoyancy checks and individual experimentation.
Pros
  • Simple, intuitive and easy-to-use interface.
  • Provides a quick starting point / ball-park weight estimate for planning.
  • Handy for on-the-fly calculations across different gear configurations and water types.
  • Useful for rough weight estimation when trying new gear or in different conditions.
  • Some experienced divers report highly accurate results for their setups.
Cons
  • Weight estimates are often inaccurate and can overweight divers, posing safety risks.
  • Limited configurability: cannot exclude the tank, limited cylinder sizes, and cannot handle multiple tanks; doesn’t account for body dimensions (height/muscle mass).
  • Reliability issues: app can crash, stop working, or fail to produce results.
  • Tank-size physics not properly modeled: not accounting for cylinder sizes/negative buoyancy differences across tanks.
  • Occasional unit conversion issues (lbs/kg) and other calculation inconsistencies.
Recent reviews
The app recommends 28 pounds based off of my standard setup but I dive with 24. Still though I would say this seems to give a decent estimate.

Of course I see everything that says it over weighs, this is just a suggestion that I would like. The ability to not include the tank in the calculations for free diving because 7mm suits can be quite buoyant and may they need some weighing down, it may also be helpful for snorkeling

This app is super simple to use, very intuitive. It does however not match what I use (or others I checked with), weight wise. Also, it appears to not correctly convert between pounds and kg.
