User Reviews

Out-Run is praised for its privacy-first, ad-free design, clean UI, and upfront pricing. It offers solid route tracking with Apple Health sync and avoids social data sharing. However, users report stability problems: crashes and lost workouts, HealthKit/import inconsistencies, and GPS accuracy variability. There’s also frustration with background multitasking causing tracking to fail. Overall, it’s a strong choice for privacy-minded runners, but stability and data-import reliability need improvement.
Pros
  • Privacy-first design with no ads and data ownership
  • Clean, minimal, intuitive UI
  • Open-source ethos and upfront, subscription-free pricing
  • Robust workout tracking (route mapping and live pace) with Apple Health sync
  • No social features or data-sharing pressure; privacy-centered approach
Cons
  • Crashes and data loss (workouts disappearing or not saving)
  • HealthKit/import issues (inconsistent or missing data despite permissions)
  • GPS/distance accuracy can be inconsistent (distances/elevation reports vary)
  • Background multitasking instability (tracking stops or resets when switching apps or screen-off)
Recent reviews
Overall, this is a nice app for tracking outdoor exercise metrics from walking, running, and biking. However, if you lose cell signal or the app happens to crash, you lose all your progress. There are instances where the app offers to recover the workout in progress, but 99% of the time I don’t get that option. Additionally, I’ve noticed the app stops tracking my movement at random times. Once I open the app to check my progress, it shows a straight line from a previous location all the way to my new location. In these instances, a large part of my workout wasn’t recorded until I manually opened the app, at which point it suddenly started tracking again.

It’s an app that removes the noise surrounding so much of the fitness industry so you can focus on what’s important. It’s not a social app. It’s not to like other persons runs. It’s a tool in your tool box for wherever your running journey takes you. Clean, simple, private. Can’t recommend enough! One feature request: the ability for the app to call out my split times.
