User Reviews

Whisker is praised for greatly reducing mess and odor, ease of use, and a data-rich app for weights and multi-unit monitoring. However, multiple reviews cite reliability problems: inconsistent app notifications, Wi-Fi drops, sensor maintenance needs, pricey upfront cost plus subscription fees, and bugs after updates. Overall, strong concept and value when working, but reliability and cost concerns limit enthusiasm.
Pros
  • Significantly reduces litter box mess and odor.
  • Easy to use and low maintenance (weekly waste bag emptying).
  • App provides cat weights, usage data, and multi-unit monitoring from one place.
  • Suitable for multi-cat and multi-floor homes with multiple units managed in one app.
Cons
  • Unreliable app notifications and alerts; cycle updates often do not appear on iPhone/Apple Watch.
  • Frequent Wi‑Fi connectivity problems causing the unit to go offline and require reboots/re-registration.
  • Sensor maintenance issues requiring regular cleaning and sometimes unreliable readings; perceived as a workaround for sensor problems.
  • High upfront price and ongoing costs for data/weight features via subscription.
  • Software updates can break features or fail to open, indicating stability issues after updates.

I want to more customization in notifications. For instance, I don’t want 4 notifications that the drawer is “almost full”, I just want 1 notification that it “is full”. Also, you can turn error notifications on/off; I want to choose which error messages to receive. I constantly get “sensor dirty” even after cleaning the sensors, and I want to turn that specific notification off without having to turn them all off.

If you have an older LR3 without Bluetooth capability, you can no longer use the app to onboard your LR3 over its local WiFi hotspot. It will just say “Connecting…” forever after you issue a valid 2.4GHz SSID and password for your home WiFi.
