User Reviews

Users consistently praise PocketTube for enabling grouping and organizing YouTube subscriptions, addressing a major limitation of YouTube itself. The strongest positives are its group/category organization and data portability via Google Drive or export/import that works across Mac, iPhone, and iPad. However, recurring issues include login/authentication problems, inconsistent syncing of groups across devices, and UI/UX problems on iPad/phone (including lack of dark mode). Some users also dislike that videos open in the YouTube app rather than inside PocketTube, limiting its standalone usefulness.
Pros
  • Excellent at organizing YouTube subscriptions into groups/categories, addressing YouTube's lack of organization.
  • Supports cross-device data management via Google Drive sync and import/export options.
  • Stable and effective once set up, with users noting it works as advertised and makes organization easy.
  • Transforms a chaotic subscription list into manageable categories, helping users find content quickly.
Cons
  • Frequent login/authentication issues, including repeated requests for Google account access.
  • Inconsistent or missing syncing of groups across devices (desktop vs mobile).
  • UI/UX limitations on iPad and iPhone, such as poor landscape handling and lack of a dark mode.
  • Videos often open in the YouTube app rather than inside PocketTube, limiting standalone usefulness.

This is the only feature remaining to make the app perfect. Now it’s extremely tricky to search for a channel in a separate app and then come back just to add it in a group
