User Reviews

User reviews for FortiClient VPN on iOS show a mixed-to-poor reliability. The most common issues are frequent connection failures and unstable VPN performance across iOS versions, with several reports of no data being transmitted after connecting. Authentication issues—especially SSO and Microsoft Authenticator workflows requiring manual OTP—are also common. Update regressions are repeatedly cited, including wiped preconfigured VPNs and new bugs after updates. A few users report success under certain configurations (e.g., licensed version, enabling SSO), but overall experience is inconsistent and often problematic for production use.
Pros
  • Some users report being able to connect to FortiGate VPN on iPhone when configured properly, including scenarios where enabling SSO helps the login flow.
  • The paid/licensed FortiClient version reportedly works reliably in some cases.
  • There are indications of positive updates/fixes being released (e.g., 'Great update' or 'App developers fixed the app').
  • Single Sign-On can streamline login when it functions as intended.
Cons
  • Frequent connection failures and instability on iOS, with reports of being unable to connect, random drops, or no data appearing after connect.
  • SSO and 2FA authentication failures, including invalid SSO responses and Microsoft Authenticator issues requiring manual one-time codes.
  • Update-induced regressions and bugs, such as wiped preconfigured VPNs and new issues after updates.
  • OS/version compatibility problems across iOS updates (notable issues on iOS 15/16/18).
  • Usability/configuration challenges, like difficulty disabling or changing VPN settings and limited feedback when a connection fails.

Seeing the negative reviews had me going in with the expectation that it wouldn’t work. Idk if they fixed whatever the issue was for everyone else, but I was able to connect to my work’s VPN that uses Forticlient from my phone without issue. I would say that if you can’t connect, try enabling “Single sign on” when setting it up. Whenever I normally sign in thru forticlient I am redirected and once I enabled that and tried again, I got my redirect on my phone and was able to sign in like normal

My org has us sign in to Microsoft and I need to authorize via the Microsoft Authenticator app. After approving the requesting on Authenticator, this app does nothing. I had to manually enter a one time pass code, and that thankfully worked.
