User Reviews

Reviewers praise Press Herald+ for a newspaper-like reading experience on mobile but report repeated reliability and usability issues. The key complaints are intrusive banner ads, frequent crashes and poor refresh access to the latest edition, and updates that remove useful features and degrade navigation. Getting the current day’s edition is inconsistent, sometimes requiring reinstall. Overall, the app works when stable, but its reliability and consistency are major concerns.
Pros
  • Newspaper-style reading experience that combines live news with a digital newspaper.
  • Easy-to-use interface.
  • When functioning, the app provides a solid mobile reading experience.
Cons
  • Banner ads appear at the top of pages (and within content), making reading harder.
  • Frequent crashes and instability; difficulty accessing today's edition and refreshing the edition.
  • Update-driven UI changes remove or hide features, reducing usability (e.g., missing page controls and header info).
  • Daily edition is inconsistent or not readily available, often requiring reinstall or workarounds.
  • Inconsistent experience across devices (iPhone vs iPad) with readability/navigation issues.

The primary feature of this new update are ads that automatically run on the top of the screen and make it impossible to read in full screen mode like it was a genuine print copy. It’s so disappointing to see an ostensibly non profit company flagrantly downgrade its product for their subscribers in this way.

The most current “improved” update now includes a annoying banner ad at the top of each page. Although the page can be enlarged to read the articles without the ad, seeing ads within the body of the page is enough advertising for subscribers. It’s tempting me to go back to a print version.
