User Reviews

Stitchly is praised for being easy to use, a value-packed one-time purchase, and strong pattern design with exports and planning tools. Users also like cross-device support and Apple Pencil use. Common drawbacks focus on color library limitations and inconsistent color matching, no cloud sync across devices, and missing essential design features (layers, shapes). Overall, it’s a powerful, user-friendly app that could be even better with expanded color options and sync capabilities.
Pros
  • Very easy to use and intuitive interface.
  • One-time purchase with strong value; no ongoing subscription.
  • Powerful pattern design and digitizing tools with image-to-pattern capability and exports (PDF/PNG).
  • Cross-device compatibility (iPhone/iPad/Mac) and Apple Pencil support for drawing.
  • Helpful planning and output features, including a shopping list of required threads and easy printing/export.
Cons
  • Color palette/library is limited and colors may not match real-world DMC/fiber options; requests for more brands and color books.
  • Lacks cloud sync across devices; progress and patterns are stored locally.
  • Missing core design tools like layers and basic shapes; drawing shapes and resizing could be improved.

I love the app. It’s amazing for making new designs and following designs I already made. My issue is that photos that are already in pixel format are hard to line up and copy correctly. I have a bunch of pixel art I would love to turn into designs but it’s hard to do it with your automated pattern creator and I just end up doing it all by hand anyway. Which is annoying and time consuming when the pieces are big. I don’t know if there is a way to line up photo grid with your system that I am missing… Also have you thought about making your tagging system when you can add bins or folders or drop down menus? My tags can get pretty long when I’m doing subsets of subsets. Ex piece has a turkey in it, so I tag it at: object - animal- bird - turkey. I don’t know if that’s just me and my love of categories though.

I absolutely LOVE this app. For decades I’ve struggled to create my own patterns. I get frustrated with the same old cutesy/cheesy patterns that I would never hang on my wall. So far I’ve been able create patterns with my favorite photos of pets and family members, and I can create new patterns when traveling without having to pack up WIPs. Yes, there are some flaws- I wish there were more sort options, and that we could save to an account rather than a backup file, but I believe those things will come in time. Even with the downsides this app deserves 5+ stars. Overall this app has given me a renewed love and passion for the craft and if I were to lose it I would cry.
