User Reviews

Users generally like the hardware pairing but the StreamMagic app is plagued by reliability and feature gaps. The top pros are stable operation on some CXN/V2 setups, fast local library browsing for NAS/SSD, and a few positive updates like a Radio playlist feature from Tidal. The most mentioned cons are lack of playlists and queue management, frequent disconnects and reconnect issues, bugs/instability across updates, weak UX for browsing, and limited service integrations (no Apple Music). Overall, the app is inconsistent and missing key features.
Pros
  • Stable operation and good integration with Cambridge Audio CXN/V2 hardware on some setups.
  • Fast local library browsing (NAS/SSD) with support for FLAC and DSD.
  • Positive updates/features, such as the new Radio playlist derived from Tidal search results.
  • Some users find the app performs well and compare favorably to other apps when it works.
Cons
  • No playlist creation or easy queue management; core playlist feature missing.
  • Frequent disconnects and unreliable connectivity to devices; occasional need to reinstall or reconfigure.
  • Bugs and instability across updates; crashes and 'no music' loops reported.
  • Poor UX for browsing and control; lacks search history, album info, and a robust browsing/interface; UI not matching marketing images.
  • Limited service integrations (no Apple Music support; licensing/content limitations; only certain services like Spotify/Qobuz available).

The hardware is very good, however, the app is bad! Need to be able to create a playlist. Nothing more frustrating than to browse through the whole library, select a song to be added to the queue in almost random order. The new added song gets added to the last song played on the queue. Ahhh! Can’t rearrange queue. This app has been around for 13 years and yet come up short. All of the music app that I know has a basic playlist capability. This app is holding back the hardware.

I followed the Cambridge Audio instructions carefully. My iPhone will not connect the device (MN 10) to my WiFi network, which has a strong signal and is working fine. Long looking at a spinning wheel has wearied me. Without Airplay, the hardware is of little use to me. Lesson learned. No more.
