User Reviews

Users praise CocoonWeaver for accurate transcription, strong privacy with local storage, and solid organization through Cocoons. The app’s calm, well-designed UI and Apple Watch support are frequently highlighted. Major drawbacks center on price (subscription is seen as expensive), reliability concerns (crashes and intermittent access), and limited cross-platform availability (no MacOS/web, Android coming later). These recurring themes summarize the balance of praise and common frustrations across reviews.
Pros
  • Excellent auto-transcription with high accuracy and usefulness for turning speech into text.
  • Strong privacy with local data storage, offering a safe space away from servers.
  • Great organization via Cocoons/folders for categorizing notes.
  • Aesthetically pleasing design and calm UX that feels intuitive.
  • Apple Watch support adds convenient on-the-go recording and navigation.
Cons
  • Subscriptions pricing is expensive and a frequent point of contention among users.
  • Stability issues like crashes, freezing, or not opening, affecting reliability.
  • Limited cross-platform availability (no MacOS app, no web app, Android support not yet; ecosystem lock-in).

Would be awesome if it was not subscription based. $100 a year is a lot

Over the years I have used this app to record thoughts and ideas and always found it really helpful and fun for my chaotic mind. It was always a really great free app and had privacy features that I really enjoyed. It felt like a safe space to drop Ideas Without feeding an algorithm. But now it seems that all my notes are locked behind a subscription model that is very expensive compared to other apps and software that do the same thing. $15 a month is more than Spotify or other streaming services. So now I have to find a way to download my data from Cocoonweaver so that I can retain agency over my own voice and ideas. Was five stars, but this pricing model is unfair to users that have been apart of this app for years. I understand developers have to make money but this is not an essential piece of software and there are lots of free alternatives. Great app but I won’t be supporting it anymore.

There is no reason this app needs to be a subscription let alone 7.99 a month. This is getting ridiculous.
