User reviews indicate the app can speed up reading and be useful, but recurring downsides include pricing/paywall concerns, problematic import/purchasing flows, reliability bugs and inaccurate stats, clunky navigation, and formatting limitations for many titles. Overall sentiment is mixed: some users value the speed-reading benefits, while others doubt ongoing support and cost versus competitors.
Pros
  • Speed-reading capability helps users read faster.
  • Generally positive and useful experience.
  • Customization options like adjustable chunk length and focus mode.
Cons
  • Paywall and pricing concerns with unclear future viability.
  • Difficult and confusing book purchasing flow and cross-app import issues (language barriers, import limitations).
  • Reliability issues including bugs, broken timer, and misleading or inaccurate stats.
  • Poor navigation controls (no quick way to jump to a specific page or percentage).
  • Formatting limitations: many books can’t be formatted for speed reading without conversion.

The only way to purchase a book is through a website that’s in a different t language other than English and I have no idea how to purchase one. You have to have a book downloaded onto your phone if you want to use the app without purchasing a book. I thought I couldn’t purchase a book but cannot so I wasted my money.

Is there anyway to skip to specific parts of a book?

This app is a decent speed reading app. You can adjust the chunk length, and there’s a cool “focus” option. But there’s some serious issues too. Half your books won’t be able to be “formatted for speed reading” requiring you to convert to it to another format before it works. Also the timer function is pretty broken, and despite the apps claims of showing your reading stats it just tells you how many days it took you to read a book which is math I can easily do myself. Personally I was hoping for an average wpm. I could live with these flaws if the app costed less, but after an undefined amount of time you get hit with a paywall of $5 per month or $16 per year. The yearly price is okay-ish, it’s cheaper than it’s competitors, but i’m not convinced this app will still exist or be updated at all in a year. All in all, Outread is the same price monthly, but it’s infinitely better. And it’s like $4 more per year if you do the yearly plan, but again, it doesn’t have as many issues and it comes with stuff like exercises to improve your speed reading, and the option to speed read like you would a physical book, going across the page.
