Overview

Features & Capabilities

Automate Shades reimagines shade control as a connected home hub. Organize shades by room, group them into scenes, and automate with timers. One Tap shade tiles let you quickly open, close, or activate scenes, while a long press opens a dedicated control screen.

ARC live feedback shows shade position, battery level, and signal strength, while sunrise/sunset automation and multi-location control keep your spaces comfortable and secure. With HomeKit compatibility and voice assistants (Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant), you can monitor and operate your shades from anywhere.

User Reviews

Users praise Kirill's support and note improvements in the app and reliability over time, but recurring issues with hub unresponsiveness, post-update regressions, and connectivity persist. Battery status can be inaccurate, and support quality varies. Overall, the product shows potential and largely works when issues are addressed, yet reliability concerns and update-related regressions remain frequent pain points.
Pros
  • Outstanding customer support, especially Kirill, with patient and knowledgeable guidance.
  • App stability and functionality have improved significantly over time.
  • Long-term reliability with occasional issues but generally trouble-free operation when issues are resolved.
Cons
  • Hub/app frequently becomes unresponsive, requiring reset or re-setup of many blinds and automations.
  • Updates can break rooms/scenes or cause UI glitches, leading to loss of configurations.
  • Connectivity issues: difficulty connecting to the hub via Ethernet/Wi‑Fi and weak connections between shades and hub; HomeKit status not updating properly.
  • Battery status reporting is inaccurate for some shades; incorrect battery levels and unnecessary low-battery alerts.
  • Support quality is inconsistent, with some users feeling abandoned or unsupported.

Controlling what percentage of shade you’d like with your blinds oftentimes end up being a hassle as the app glitches constantly and is unresponsive to inputs made in the app

Let me just start that if my shades are not roll ease r18 (the crown is different from many standardized retrofit motors), I never would have chosen automate. There are much better options that are cheaper and easier to setup. I bought the Pulse home pro and 4 automate motors for my r16 roller blinds. Got them from rolleaseparts.com and confirmed with sales and tech that no remote is needed for the setup since I want them controlled through HomeKit. Today after contractors came, none of the four shades would pair. We followed every instruction there is, factory resetting the motors, the hub, making sure the hub is connected through 2.4ghz WiFi etc. And all we get each and every time, after the 3 beeps from the motor which should indicate a pairing is the alert message saying no response from shade and to move closer to hub. The shade is literally right next to the hub, and I know it can tell the shade is there since the shade has given 3 beeps while in pairing mode after I press “next” in the app. This is very ridiculous from roll ease to have to lock to their remote to the pairing proceed, when in 2026 most motors on the market support direct matter QR code instead of requiring an expensive hub and also an expensive remote that I would only need for the pairing. I am beyond disappointed and to any one reading considering retrofitting their blinds, stay away from roll ease this setup is too painful to even think how far it’s behind other modern competitors…
