Features & Capabilities

Write in Runic transliterates text to runes using a phonetic mapping, focusing on sounds rather than meanings. It supports a broad set of runic systems including Elder Futhark, Younger Futhark, Anglo-Saxon runes, Ogham, Gothic, Armanen runes, and more, making it a handy resource for pronunciation and learning runic alphabets.

In addition, the extension exposes system keyboards so you can type runes directly in other apps. Text can be transliterated from English, Russian, or language-agnostic inputs, helping you explore runic alphabets across languages.

User Reviews

Overall, users praise the app’s concept and rune content but report significant usability and compatibility issues. Many reviews note that the iOS keyboard cannot be added or enabled, the translate function sometimes shows a blank screen, and the UI can be a white-on-white nightmare on certain devices. Compatibility with older iPhones/iOS versions is a common concern, and several users express frustration about paying for the app and not receiving a working keyboard (including requests for refunds). A few users also question transliteration accuracy, particularly for Ogham, though Norse runes are described as mostly accurate.

The keyboard for this app works well, however, the Android version has Cirth and this one doesn't. In addition, the translate section seems completely broken, showing a blank screen.

I love this app. I have an IPhone 10, however, I cannot find the “Write in Runic” in the keyboard options, regarding selecting languages. I highly doubt it’s my phone. It’s possibly a bug, or something.

I specifically paid for this stupid app for the keyboard and after following the instructions, the keyboard is not there. I want a refund on this. Unacceptable.
