Features & Capabilities

VRidge enables RiftCat's VRidge technology to run PC VR games on iOS devices by streaming over WiFi to a mobile headset. It lets you turn your phone into a VR display when mounted in a Cardboard-style headset, offering a cost-effective PC VR experience.

The extension highlights the desktop PC power behind PC VR, supports high-quality graphics and responsive head tracking, and notes you must download the RiftCat client to use VRidge.

User Reviews

VRidge on iOS offers a budget path to PC VR by using a phone as a headset and bridging to SteamVR, with some users reporting solid results. However, many reviews indicate frequent crashes, connection problems, startup failures, and lag, making it unreliable for sustained use. Price concerns and paywalls add to the frustration, while a few users still report workable experiences in lighter titles like Roblox or Minecraft VR when conditions are favorable.
Pros
  • Low-cost/accessible VR by using a phone headset to stream PC VR.
  • Acts as a bridge between phone and SteamVR, enabling PC VR experiences on mobile hardware.
  • Works surprisingly well in some cases (e.g., support for Roblox and Minecraft VR on budget setups).
  • Often perceived as a better option than alternatives like Trinus VR.
  • Enables high-resolution VR experiences without expensive headsets when conditions are favorable.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and freezing, leading to unstable performance.
  • Connection and headset detection problems (headset not detected, Riftcat connection failures, SteamVR disconnects).
  • Launch/startup issues (app closes on opening or gets stuck at the start screen).
  • Monetization concerns (unlimited version/donations seem overpriced given performance).
  • Streaming latency/lag and choppiness during play.
