Maker Calc Fraction Calculator

Best App for Measurement Math

Features & Capabilities

Meet Maker Calc: The Tape Measure Companion. A measurement calculator for real-time fraction math on projects where you need to convert decimals to fractions from your tape measure. Quickly input measurement-based fractions to see results as you type, with automatic metric, feet and inches conversions.

One of its strongest features is rounding options based on the selected precision. If a result falls between two measurements, you’ll see the nearest fractions below the screen and can choose the best fit for your application. Built by Jake Hasler, a hobbyist woodworker and maker, Maker Calc is designed to be trusted, fast, and enjoyable to use.

User Reviews

Users consistently call Maker Calc Fraction Calculator essential for maker projects. The standout strengths are fast fraction-to-decimal conversions and metric/imperial conversions with a live window, plus precise granularity and rounding controls (1/16, 1/32, 1/64 and up). The clean, readable UI and a helpful bar-graph visualize how close results are to target fractions, saving time across woodworking, CNC, CAD, and 3D printing. Main concerns are the subscription pricing for premium features and onboarding friction; some users note a brief learning curve for entering fractions.
Pros
  • Fast fraction-to-decimal conversions with metric/imperial support via a live conversion window.
  • Granularity and rounding controls (including up to 64ths) that let you choose precise fractions and rounding behavior.
  • Readable, easy-to-use interface that’s especially helpful for older eyes and projects across woodworking, CNC, CAD, and 3D printing.
  • Saves time and reduces errors by replacing paper charts and standard calculators with a single dedicated tool.
  • Visual aids like a bar graph showing how close a result is to a target fraction.
Cons
  • Subscription pricing for premium features.
  • Onboarding or trial friction due to prompts/questions needed to access features, making it hard to try before buying.
  • Initial learning curve for entering fractions (understanding how to input the numerator/denominator).

If loving a calculator app is wrong, I don’t wanna be right. I use this app constantly in my home wood shop, it has every single feature I want in a “fractional calculator”, if that’s what we’re calling it. The little Live Conversion window is brilliant for the times I need to work in metric. Great app from a swell developer!

I love this app. I downloaded it days after it was released, and bought the premium edition almost immediately. I use this daily for woodworking, CAD design & 3d printing. And when customers attempt to convert metric Festool measurements when they come in to the Woodcraft store where I work a couple of days a week, I just pull up the app, and, easy peasy, give them the Imperial equivalent!

I’m a woodworker and who’s made my share of fraction-related mistakes. More than I’d care to admit. And yes, I could switch to metric like some of my other woodworking friends, but I don’t want to. I use this app nearly every day. It’s well laid out, easy to see with my older eyes, and it does basic fractional math really well. I especially like the bar graph the app displays when a number is between your selected precision - you can quickly tell if, for example, the result is closer to 3/32” or 1/8”, and by how much. Really useful. Great, stable app.
