User Reviews

Users praise Seabook for its user-friendly search, educational value, and engaging UI. However, paywalls hide many features and limit species, with complaints about not being able to log sightings and occasional misidentifications or search gaps, especially with native names. Overall, it’s a promising learning tool that’s hindered by access limits and reliability in practice.
Pros
  • Easy-to-use search and fish identification interface.
  • Educational and comprehensive, acting as a smart ocean guide with learning content.
  • Positive initial impression and engaging user experience.
  • Clean UI with a distraction-free design.
Cons
  • Paywall / premium access blocks core features and many species.
  • Limited species count in the free version.
  • Inability to log or save sightings within the app.
  • Reliability issues: occasional misidentifications and search gaps (including native names).

Useless unless you pay for premium. This is not a “free” app

I had high hopes for this because this type of app is needed, but I’m ultimately really disappointed. I saw a Rainbow Triggerfish today and so wanted to log it: the app says there is no species by that name. Then I searched for humuhumunukunukuapua’a, and nothing comes up and I finally see that triggerfish listed as “wedgefin” when the much more common name is Reef Triggerfish. But I can’t check to see if that’s an option because well, it’s behind a paywall (and sidenote: the Hawaiian names for fish should be included in search terms!). I’m not opposed to paying for apps, but when it’s set up this way (hiding information instead of say, additional features) it’s hard to justify a cost.
