User Reviews

The PNW Current Atlas app is praised for visualizing currents and planning with hourly forecasts and offers strong value as a one-time purchase. It supports hourly scanning and has responsive developer support. However, reviews note price concerns, incomplete geographic coverage, occasional time offset/DST issues, and missing important currents or predictions in key areas. Overall, it’s a useful planning tool with caveats about data scope and accuracy.
Pros
  • Easy to visualize currents and plan trips with hourly forecasts.
  • Good value for the price: a one-time purchase around $20 that can save hours versus buying/updates of the paper atlas.
  • Hourly current scanning/forecast capability (hour-by-hour) helps navigation.
  • Developer responsiveness and willingness to explain data/algorithms.
Cons
  • Price/value concerns: perceptions that $19.99 is high for the app's scope.
  • Limited geographic coverage: not all Puget Sound and eastern waters are included; missing key charts.
  • Time accuracy issues and DST handling: some reports of 1-hour offset and no DST corrections.
  • Missing important currents/data points and some regions lack predictions (e.g., Deception Pass, Nanaimo, etc.).

Great app, used it regularly. Stopped working today??? Update: Started working again?!?! There appear to be gremlins in my phone, but not an app issue after all…

I like to try it out before buying. The app immediately showed “Free trial expired” after I had installed it for the first time.

The print version must round to the nearest hour, but that’s not a limitation for the app. The app reports correct times for each page of currents
