User Reviews

The Torpedo Wireless Remote is praised for reliable operation when it connects, cross-device wireless use, and an intuitive UI, especially with Captor X. However, users repeatedly note stability problems: frequent disconnects and crashes, Bluetooth latency with no USB option, offline content limitations, and OS compatibility issues on older devices. Updates help some, but the core reliability and setup hurdles remain the main drawbacks.
Pros
  • Reliable connectivity and performance when it connects, trusted across Mac, iPhone, and iPad; suitable for live sound checks and performances.
  • Wireless cross-device operation without needing a computer; works on Mac, iPhone, and iPad for practice and gigs.
  • Functional, intuitive UI and ease of use; several reviewers call it easy to use or flawless.
  • Strong integration with Captor X and other gear, with firmware updates that improve stability.
Cons
  • Frequent disconnections and instability, including crashes or the app shutting off and pairing difficulties.
  • Bluetooth-only connection with latency and no wired USB option, leading to noticeable delays for some users.
  • Offline limitations: cab descriptions/images may be missing when not online and the app can fail to open without internet.
  • OS/device compatibility issues, especially with older iOS/iPadOS versions (e.g., requests for support on older OS).
  • Startup/crash issues on some devices (still crashes when opened) and overall stability concerns.

I’m not sure if these guys have a UI designer on their team or how long it’s been since they’ve looked at their app outside of the iOS device simulator, but the UI is truly terrible. There are certain menus you cannot go back from because the back button overlaps with the clock in the top left corner. Menu buttons at the bottom are so cramped at the bottom that you can barely tap them. The corners of buttons get cut off around the edges of the phone because the devs haven’t bothered to update their graphics. The UX is so terrible I simply do not want to deal with it. Please, fix this. I want to love your products.

This is the only guitar pedal/device app I have that I actually trust. I’ve used it for years with a Captor X and now an Opus. The app is functional, intuitive, and it always connects and works properly on my Mac, iPhone, and iPad. It’s solid enough that I can make adjustments during sound check, and would even trust it for performance use in a pinch.
