Features & Capabilities

Lazy Surfer is a surf app that lets you log your sessions and receive a personalized forecast for all your spots. It targets the conditions that actually matter—waves, wind, and tide—using buoy data instead of generic nearshore forecasts. When those ideal conditions reappear, you’ll get alerts and a 16-day forecast to help you plan ahead. You can also share session details with friends, making it easy to compare notes and rides.

Lazy Surfer builds personalized predictions around your preferred wave style, so you’ll see how good the surf will be at your favorite spots. The more sessions you log, the better the recommendations become. The project started in San Diego as a way for its creator to learn local breaks, and it combines alerts, forecasts, and machine-learning powered predictions to help you score when others think it’s flat. User Reviews

Lazy Surfer is praised for accurate forecasts, robust logging, and personalized spot data, with a beginner-friendly interface and good value. Users like logging sessions, tracking progress, and improving forecasts with use. The main drawbacks are data accuracy inconsistencies, some UI/UX performance issues, and occasional billing hassles. If you want a feature-rich surf-tracking tool with solid forecasts and can tolerate occasional UI quirks, it’s a strong option, especially vs Surfline.
Pros
  • Very accurate forecasts and spot data.
  • Robust session logging, history, and the ability to annotate or note progress.
  • Strong personalization: create and organize favorite spots; compare across days and locations.
  • Detailed data visualization and predictions that improve with use.
  • Good value and affordability relative to Surfline.
Cons
  • Data accuracy and forecast reliability issues (e.g., wave height can mismatch actual conditions; ratings not always accurate; forecasts not always perfect).
  • UI/UX and performance concerns (lag between taps, slow loading, and charts/navigation can be unclear).
  • Billing/renewal issues (unexpected auto-renew charge and refund request).
Recent reviews
The main reason I don’t upgrade to the paid subscription is that the sessions never log. I have sent countless reports but the issue has never been acknowledged or resolved. This didn’t happen last summer with the app so I’m not sure changed. Otherwise the layout is great and forecasts are helpful.

I like how you can create your own spots with ease. My only suggestion is to be able to see all of your spots on a map. Maybe a map button on the bottom where you can see all your spots and see a preview of how it’s doing.
