User Reviews

User reviews praise BroadLink for device versatility and occasional reliability, including remote control and home automation integration. However, multiple complaints span privacy concerns over location permissions, onerous Wi‑Fi onboarding, and recurring reliability issues where devices stop working and require resets. Additional frustration arises from compatibility gaps with certain hardware and a cluttered, hard‑to‑troubleshoot app UI. Overall, the app is valuable when it works and supports many devices, but onboarding, privacy prompts, and consistency problems significantly hinder consistent use.
Pros
  • Versatility to control a wide range of devices (TVs, ACs, fans, etc.) and integrate with home automation (e.g., Alexa).
  • Remote access: control your devices from anywhere with internet.
  • Overall positive sentiment from some users (e.g., 'Excellent', 'Fantastic') when setup is successful.
Cons
  • Mandatory location permissions and persistent prompts; privacy concerns about location data.
  • Complex Wi‑Fi onboarding and setup (AP mode, SSIDs, VLANs; 2.4 GHz requirement).
  • Reliability issues: devices stop working periodically and require resets or reprogramming.
  • Compatibility issues with certain devices (RF‑only devices, Roku, Hampton Bay).
  • App usability problems (confusing UI, duplicate device cards, difficult automations, lack of clear troubleshooting or error codes).

Used the BroadLink to control some motorize Allen & Roth shades. Works fine. Look forward to connecting more devices in the future.

I’m a fairly tech savvy person. I’ve built my own computers and installed countless devices to my networks over the years. This device is one of the few that has left me frustrated with a raging headache. Apparently other people aren’t having the same issue so maybe I got a bad device but I don’t care. I’m sending it back to Amazon. This was a waste of my time.
