Features & Capabilities

HTTP Catcher is a web debugging proxy that intercepts, inspects, modifies, and replays HTTP/S traffic. It runs a local VPN on your device to capture all network activity over Wi‑Fi and cellular networks and forwards it to a built-in proxy, enabling you to test apps and websites without a computer.

Key features include decrypting HTTPS, viewing WebSocket traffic, URL blocking, request replay, and on-the-fly modification of requests and responses. It also supports domain filtering, DNS mapping, and HTML/JS/CSS reformatting for easier analysis, plus a HEX viewer for low-level data.

User Reviews

Users praise the app for broad traffic-sniffing and debugging capabilities (including DNS hijacking and app/API blocking). However, recurring issues—license/purchase problems, HTTPS capture/certificate failures on newer iOS, unreliable replay features, occasional crashes, and weak support with confusing pricing—undermine its reliability. Overall, a powerful tool marred by purchasing friction and stability problems that many users encounter.
Pros
  • Broad traffic-sniffing capabilities, including DNS hijacking.
  • Useful debugging tool with the ability to block certain apps and APIs.
  • Often regarded as one of the best sniffers in the App Store.
  • Solid feature set that supports analysis and debugging workflows.
Cons
  • Licensing and restore-purchase problems (failed restores, duplicate charges, disabled accounts).
  • HTTPS capture and certificate issues on newer iOS versions (certificate not working, root cert failures).
  • Replay features (replays/advanced replays) often broken or non-functional.
  • App instability and crashes after updates.
  • Support responsiveness and pricing/upgrade flow concerns.

I've downloaded and toyed with every traffic sniffing app ever lucky enough to be released in the App Store the past 7 years. Some were terrible, some extraordinary. All are gone now- removed. Except for a few, and here is one of them. It does all the things you'd want it to do, including DNS hijacking. It's great. I do have some minor complaints, like its lack of displaying the user agent making calls. I have to go by guessing and it's a mess. I wish it would just say what's doing it so I know if it's Safari, CFNetworking, or some silly app. The filter also is lacking. But pretty much every feature is not unlike the others- it's just a bit messier.
