User Reviews

Overall, Bluetooth-based card reading on iOS can work well for accessing DoD/enterprise sites via Safari when using a compatible reader. However, reviews repeatedly cite broad compatibility problems, high costs, a very limited trial, reliability issues after updates, and slow support. Native iOS smart card support further reduces the app’s value for some users. Pros appear when hardware is compatible, but many users face frustrating setup and inconsistent performance.
Pros
  • Bluetooth smart card reader connectivity provides a reliable, wireless, dongle-free experience.
  • Enables access to DoD and enterprise sites on iOS via Safari, often without needing third-party browsers.
  • Positive experiences when the system works, with users noting it facilitates DoD CAC login workflows.
  • DoD certificate installation is straightforward for many users.
Cons
  • Reader compatibility is hit-or-miss across devices/readers (Twocanoes USB-C, SCR3310, MacBook Pro M3, iPad Pro), with many not recognized.
  • High price and limited site support; several sites are inaccessible or not broadly usable.
  • Very limited 10-trial usage; troubleshooting is hindered by a strict trial cap.
  • Reliability issues and occasional regressions after updates (e.g., Bluetooth read failures).
  • Customer support responses are slow or unresponsive.

Wont work with my USB-C reader bought from Twocanoes

I’ve spent far too much time trying to get this overly expensive mobile cac reader to work. It worked well on my older iPhone, but once I upgraded to a newer one the device will not connect to it! Great concept, terrible execution and not user friendly!!!
