User Reviews

Ground School is widely praised for its engaging, instructor-led approach and comprehensive, source-backed content that blends videos, reading, and embedded FAA references. It’s effective for test prep, with many users achieving high FAA written scores and benefiting from mock tests and oral prep, and its mobile-friendly format supports study on the go. Common caveats include a lighter video component in some sections and mixed views on price, with some feeling the subscription is pricey. Overall, it’s a strong option for PPL and IFR prep, valuable for learners who seek depth and sources.
Pros
  • Engaging, mentor-like teaching by Jason Miller and his team, with a relaxed, supportive atmosphere.
  • Comprehensive, well-referenced content presented in multiple formats (videos and text) with embedded FAA references.
  • Strong test-prep performance: realistic practice questions, mock oral prep, and high scores on written exams.
  • Mobile-first and accessible: study on the go on iPhone/iPad, with offline options and practical cross-device use.
  • Solid value and support: responsive customer support; free access for CFIs; overall positive view of cost and content.
Cons
  • Video content is limited; the course relies heavily on text and FAA documents, with relatively few videos.
  • Some reviewers feel the price is high or the subscription model is pricey.

While the app works okay, it’s not as polished as some others. I went through a couple of the trainings and worked through some of the questions and study guide that are good but not the best I have seen. I have been listening to the podcast which is what led me to the app but I think the pricing is quite high for what it is- perhaps if it were a one time charge for lifetime at $300ish but yearly is just too much. Living in Grass Valley must be very expensive.

First time for me as CFI to peruse Jason’s training and I am very impressed with the ease and relaxed atmosphere Jason has accomplished with this app! Most refreshing and I plan to have my instrument students work through each of these. The learn more button and the imbedded references are seamless and much quicker than I can get the book out and find the info!

I really liked the app my local CFI recommended it (he had a coupon for a couple percentage point off full price). It really helped with getting my knowledge test endorsement (via the app). I used it for ground school and my locaL CFI could answer questions as they came up weekly when I was flying Before solo. I ended up missing the following questions on my written: pa.i.ak2, pa.i.i.e.k1 pa.i.f.k2e, pa.ii.d.k1, pa.bi.c.kw, pa.vii.bk2, pa.xi.a.k1. The only improvements I could ask for overall would be a a section strictly on aircraft logbooks , engine logbooks, and AD addressing section . My DPE hit airworthiness of aircraft hard with log books as well. I felt under prepared, but was able to come back. The flight portion was not problematic at all and I think the DPE seemed happy with my performance. (I passed first time so he wasn’t “unhappy” lol)
