ITGuides: Pompeii, Herculaneum

NOT recommended. This app gives good explanations of the sights at Pompeii and has a good map of all the sights and highlights. What sucks though is that every time you move away to another app (say Google maps for directions) the app defaults to the home screen, which means you have to find your specific guide again, go to it’s start screen, then open the map and navigate to the sight that you want an explanation of. If you are offline, you can add 20 seconds to that process while the app tries to open all possible guides it offers and can’t do it. You can download the Pompeii guide for offline use and you can access it offline, but every time you go through this startup process again. VERY frustrating and so I cannot recommend this app.

Thought I was smart to download all of the recordings the night before we went to Pompeii, but they don’t seem to work after some period of time has elapsed. It would no longer recognize what I had already downloaded. And then, of course, it wasn’t possible to download 84mb in the middle of the archeology site. So it ended up being a major fail. I don’t know why you don’t get the entire download forever when you purchase each individual guide.
