User Reviews

Mezzanine Theater Diary is praised as a polished, user-friendly logbook for theatre fans. It supports rich entries with photos, notes, ratings, tags, seat locations, and production details, and its clean UI makes logging a pleasure. Users also value an up-to-date show library and the ability to export data to CSV for dashboards, plus the Patron tier unlocks extra features like photo uploads. Common downsides include gaps in the catalog (opera/classical), occasional typing issues, and a wish for more social features and broader non-Broadway coverage. Overall, a strong 'Letterboxd for theatre' with growth potential.
Pros
  • Rich logging: photos, notes, ratings, tags, seat locations, and production details.
  • Clean, intuitive UI that makes logging and exploring effortless.
  • Up-to-date show library with production info and venue details.
  • Data portability and insights via CSV export and dashboards.
  • Patron tier unlocks enhanced features (photo uploads, advanced tagging, seat locations, notes).
Cons
  • Catalog gaps: missing shows, especially opera/classical performances.
  • Typing issues: keyboard sometimes won't appear, blocking entry.
  • Limited social features; lacks likes, comments, or easy interaction with others’ reviews.
  • Coverage skew toward Broadway/West End; opera/classical and non-Broadway content is underrepresented.

This app is great, but can you count Chitty Bang Bang’s Broadway run in 2005 as being inside what is now the Lyric Theater? It played in what was the Lyric Theater under a different name and my mother took me to see it when I was a child. Once you count that, then by this fall, I’ll have seen shows in all Broadway theaters. But without that, the app says I’ll have seen shows in all but 1 theater which isn’t accurate. Thanks!

I’m so glad to have learned about this app as a way to keep track of shows that I’ve seen. It’s very easy to use, and I appreciate being able to add both reviews and private notes as well as my own tags. My only minor complaint is that I wish you could choose to show the dates in your diary by default even if you’ve added a rating. I’ve stopped adding ratings so I can see the dates at a glance, but I’d love to be able to do both.
