Matterhorn is the official Zermatt app. On the Home screen you can access webcams, the weather forecast, and a live panoramic map. You can view the live e-bus timetable, reserve a table in the online restaurant system, search for events, and use the Ticket Shop to book cable cars or travel tickets.

On the LIVE page, see which lifts and runs are open, the weather forecast for your stay, and the next train times, alongside webcams and warnings from Zermatt Bergbahnen. EXPLORE helps you discover activities, restaurants, bars, or spas with map filters. PEAK TRACK lets you save your ski pass, track personal statistics, create groups, compete with friends, and view the public ranking. PROFILE lets you personalize content, receive warnings about routes and tickets, and manage your saved favourites.

Pros

Maps/piste maps are included for planning the ski day.

Cons

Location services are unreliable: cannot locate the user accurately or show correct position in Zermatt.
Poor map/navigation experience: panorama label is hard to use, lifts and runs are often unlabeled or missing, and the map is glitchy.
Frequent login/authentication problems: cannot log in, password reset emails fail to send, and verification emails are not delivered.
Payment method entry and card processing errors.
No offline maps or offline access; dependence on internet makes the app unusable in the mountains.

The developers say the app isn’t primarily a ski map, so what’s the alternative? “Panorama” is hard to navigate and doesn’t always contain the information you’d expect. I suggest they do some usability testing with skiers new to Zermatt. Labeling runs and toggling only open lifts and runs would be a good start!
