User Reviews

TrueCoach is praised for its user-friendly design, coach-led programs, and helpful video guides that support workouts and accountability. However, stability and reliability issues (crashes, sign-out/login problems), plus feature gaps (no dark mode, missing rest timers, data not saving across screens, and occasional video issues) are recurring complaints. Overall, its core strength is coaching delivery and ease of use, but improvements are needed in stability, data handling, and accessibility features.
Pros
  • User-friendly interface that is easy to navigate and track workouts
  • Coach-delivered programs with clear guidance and instructional videos
  • Video demonstrations showing how to perform exercises for proper form
  • Remote coaching support and accountability (therapist/coach sending workouts and feedback)
  • Efficient platform for managing workouts and related goals (including nutrition tracking in some use cases)
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and instability (app crashes during use, including when accessing messages or uploading videos)
  • Sign-in/out issues (being signed out regularly, problematic login after updates, weak password-reset flow)
  • Missing or weak UX/features (no dark mode or enlarged font, rest timers missing, data like reps/notes not saved when navigating between screens, need for structured logging fields)
  • Video playback/upload problems in the app (some tutorials not working or failing to upload)
  • Navigation/UX bugs in messaging (back button issues, red unread indicators with no messages)

TrueCoach is good for being able to assign tasks and imbed videos and content, but it is the worst app I have used in terms of workout tracking. It is shocking that a lifting app does not have discrete fields for tracking sets, weights, and reps and provides no ability to track progress visually over time. The timer function is also terrible as you can’t use it while in the screen for logging your lift so you have to leave that section to use the timer then go back in to log what you’ve lifted. And if you try to update anything else in TrueCoach while the timer is running it will just stop functioning. I actually use a separate application (Hevy) to track all of my lifts and then transcribe them into TrueCoach for my coach to have access to which is a giant waste of time but I need the features that Hevy provides and TrueCoach sorely lacks.

This app is basic and does a horrible job of actually tracking your sets and reps. There are so many other better apps out there that allow you to input every set in every wrap and then calculate total weight lifted and create reports, etc. This app has a box to free type stuff in and that’s it. Yes you can communicate with your trainer, but every apple allows you to do that. I just don’t understand how this app survives.
