Features & Capabilities

Pyto IDE is an iOS-native development environment that brings Python 3.10, a C/C++ compiler, and 100+ third‑party packages to iPhone and iPad. It includes a terminal with UNIX commands, a code editor with code completion, a debugger, and support for Shortcuts, Picture in Picture, and a graphical interface builder. The built‑in bitcode interpreter and extensive libraries enable you to run Python and C/C++ projects directly on iOS.

Key system modules unlock native iOS capabilities from Python, including pyto_ui for UI, widgets for Home Screen widgets, file_system and notifications for background tasks, and access to photos, location, and more. A rich package ecosystem (numpy, pandas, matplotlib, cryptography, and friends) covers data science, cryptography, and general development, making Pyto IDE a powerful portable coding studio on iOS.

User Reviews

Overall, Pyto IDE reviews are mixed. The main concerns are pricing and billing: recurring charges, upfront paywalls, and trial traps that surprise users. Cancellation and subscription management are repeatedly difficult—subscriptions aren’t easy to find in-app and restoration often fails. Stability is another issue, with several reports of crashes during editing and unresponsive controls. On the plus side, some reviewers find the app useful as an offline Python IDE on iPad and even view it as good value with a one-time payment, though pricing debates overshadow the positives.
Pros
  • Overall positive sentiment about the app and its usefulness as an iPad Python IDE.
  • The app makes Python accessible on iPad for coding and testing.
  • Some reviewers report a one-time payment option with no ongoing subscription.
  • Several reviewers view the app as a solid offline Python IDE option on iPad.
Cons
  • Frequent paywalls and upfront/ongoing charges, including immediate charges after a trial and repeated purchases.
  • Difficulty canceling subscriptions and locating them in-app; restoration often fails; pricing transparency issues.
  • Stability issues with crashes during editing and unresponsive controls.

I’m new to Python programming and find the lack of documentation appalling. I expected some “growing pains” with learning a new language and editor, but think I’ll give up on the iPad version and probably just stick to programming on my Linux machine. I haven’t programmed in years but was proficient in C++, Machine Language and BASIC.
