Features & Capabilities

Danger Notes - Write or Die is a Chrome extension that tackles writer's block by forcing you to keep typing to save your work. It turns writing into a momentum game, so pausing too long risks losing text and progress.

Ideal for term papers, essays, books, speeches, lyrics, or any free writing, this tool helps you move from blank page to flowing prose. The idea is that continuous writing builds a natural flow and momentum to overcome blocks.

User Reviews

Users praise Danger Notes for breaking writer's block with a simple, timer-based approach that motivates regular writing and embraces imperfection. The app’s straightforward design and time goals help ideas flow without overthinking. However, reviewers repeatedly cite data-loss worries, frequent bugs (notably on iOS 16), and limited export/copy options as major drawbacks. Some want cross-device syncing or a sign-in, more formatting features, and easier ways to preserve or transfer their work. Overall, it’s valued for motivation and simplicity, with reliability and sharing improvements needed.
Pros
  • Helps break writer's block by forcing a flow of writing and reducing perfectionism.
  • Highly motivating; encourages daily writing and steady progress.
  • Simple, easy-to-use interface that effectively gets ideas out.
  • Time-based goals with a configurable timer instead of a strict word count.
Cons
  • Risk of losing work due to accidental deletion or app closing; fear of progress being destroyed.
  • Bugs and instability, especially after iOS 16; text overlap, screen jerks, and other glitches.
  • Limited ability to copy/export or move writing out of the app easily.
  • Requests for a sign-in/sync feature for cross-device progress and additional formatting options.

If you’re serious about your writing and trying to get into actual good habits, this is your app. The only thing I would add is a streak counter. No rewards or anything, personally I always think that should be dealers choice. But just super basic metrics so people can be honest about what they’re doing what their time. And I’m people.

Use it every day, why not

i really like the way this works. it gets me out of the endless loop of “i can’t write this down until it’s perfect in my head but it’ll never be perfect until i get the bad stuff out.” without the hyperfixation on one sentence running through my head and clogging up all the ram i can actually think of new ideas. crazy right? anyway my only caveat is i’m not actually going to use this app because i also found an app called “unprompted” that has the same feature and also has a lot of unique writing prompts to start from. if unprompted starts bombarding me with ads or lagging so much it barely works, i’m using danger notes.
