Features & Capabilities

Gym Day is a comprehensive gym workout planner and tracker designed to help you log, plan, and optimize your weightlifting sessions. Build custom routines from a library of 300+ exercises—including bench press, squats, deadlifts, and various dumbbell and Olympic lifts—and start with built-in programs like StrongLifts 5x5, Madcow, PPL, and Starting Strength. The app makes it quick to add reps, weights, notes, and rest times, while supersets, trisets, and giant sets help you push progress.

Track progress with visual tools such as one-rep max charts, workout histories, and performance comparisons. See your muscle targets and time spent in the gym, and easily share workouts to Apple Health. Whether you’re aiming for strength, size, or fat loss, Gym Day acts as your personal gym guide with automatic log recreation, rest timers, and an extensive exercise library.

User Reviews

Users love Gym Day for tracking progress, customization, and a straightforward interface with a one-time purchase option. The main drawbacks are a preference against in-app purchases, potential license repurchase when switching from Android to iPhone, and a limited built-in exercise library prompting user-created content. Overall, it’s valued for motivation and control but could improve on licensing continuity and exercise variety.
Pros
  • Strong progress tracking and statistics that motivate users by showing history and gains
  • High customization: create your own workouts and exercises, add supersets, timers, and adapt plans to available equipment
  • One-time purchase / lifetime membership with no ongoing subscription
  • Intuitive, simple UI with reliable performance and ongoing updates/bug fixes
  • CSV export of logs (Excel-friendly) for external analysis
Cons
  • In-app purchases for features are a deterrent for some users
  • Cross-platform licensing issue: Android purchases don’t transfer to iPhone, potentially requiring repurchase
  • Limited built-in exercise library leads users to frequently create their own exercises to fill gaps

I've been using it for years. Got lifetime access a few years ago for about 10 bucks. I think it's up a bit now, but it's vastly superior to paying 10 bucks a month for a subscription like most of the apps out there.

This app is super useful. Helps me keep track of progress, previous sessions, maxes, reps, notes by exercise and by session. Lots of workout plans to look at, but also can make my own custom plans. Good for me cause I like to mix in different exercises to improve my surfing and general athleticism. Not to mention the ability to record a workout on the go, for days when the gym is busy and I can’t stick to my prepared plans without waiting 20 minutes for the power cage to open up or something . The in workout timer and reminder is also super useful to keep me focused on days when I’m feeling spacey and unfocused. Definitely try it out. The free version allows enough access to really get an idea of the app. Highly recommend — Re-reviewing several years later It’s been a few years since my last review and I am still constantly using this app. The ability to add notes to exercises (i.e. put safety spotters in 3rd hole on power rack), as well as notes within the sets themselves (I.e. failed at 4 reps) has been huge for me to keep track of my progress and keep myself healthy and improving. In the various stages of my fitness journey I’ve used this app, and it has worked well every step of the way!
