Features & Capabilities

Wallflower 3.0 is a fresh start: we rebuilt the app from the ground up. The new Dynamic Dashboard shows what matters right now and filters out the rest.

Everything that matters, always in view.

Wallflower turns an iPad or iPhone into a dynamic dashboard for your smart home — a control panel on the wall, for everyone in your home. It shows what matters right now and filters out the rest.

A DYNAMIC DASHBOARD

Lights that are on. Scenes that are active. Cameras when there’s movement. Air quality when it’s bad. Calendar events until shortly after they end. Wallflower shows only what’s relevant right now — active devices, sensors outside their normal range, cameras with motion — plus anything you’ve pinned. And everything that is not shown is one tap away.

A lamp that’s off stays out of your way — the moment it’s on, it’s right there.

The interface follows the same rule: buttons and controls stay out of the way until you actually use the display. With attention sensing enabled, Wallflower notices you approaching and brings them back before you even touch the screen. It uses camera metadata only; images are discarded immediately, never recorded or sent — and the feature is strictly opt-in.

SMART HOME FOR EVERYONE

You set up your smart home; everyone else lives in it. Wallflower makes it available to everyone in the house — no app to install, no credentials to share, no phrase to shout at Siri.

Smart home data belongs on your wall, not in your pocket. Temperature, air quality, humidity — finally somewhere everyone can see it. Are the windows closed? Is the upstairs light on? One look at the wall.

EASY TO START, FLEXIBLE TO MAKE IT YOURS

If you have an Apple Home, just tell Wallflower which room or zone it’s in, and it configures a dashboard for you — always up to date, ready to use.

From there you make it yours: pin a sensor so it’s never hidden, hide what you never want to see, add a device from another room or a camera from the holiday home. Or create a custom dashboard: it starts empty and shows only what you add — from any of your homes.

AND THERE’S MORE

• Custom-drawn symbols for lamps and devices, and detail views for lights, thermostats, fans, cameras, TVs and more • A proper wall clock: extremely accurate, with the date • Weather at a glance — and severe weather alerts when they matter • The family calendar, where the whole household actually looks • Guest Wi-Fi by QR code: guests scan, and they’re in • Issues surfaced: unreachable devices, low batteries, network trouble • Optimized for the dark: when the room gets dark, the display dims with it • Settings protected with Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode • Full VoiceOver and accessibility support

Built on HomeKit, Wallflower works with your whole Apple Home: Philips Hue, IKEA, Eve, Aqara — plus Matter devices, KNX bridges, Home Assistant and Homebridge. And because HomeKit runs locally, Wallflower controls your home even when the internet is down.

NOBODY’S BUSINESS BUT YOURS

There is no tracking, no phoning home, no invasive third-party frameworks. We don’t want your data. Your home is yours, and yours alone. You pay for the app, and that’s the whole business model.

Behind Wallflower is not a VC-funded growth operation, but a small company in Berlin that has made this app since 2019, funded by the people who use it. No ads, no data business, no lock-in — an app you see and use every day, made by people you can email.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Viewing and controlling your Apple Home is free, with no limit on the number of devices — as are the wall clock and guest Wi-Fi. Any purchase unlocks customization: pin, hide, arrange, and custom dashboards. Wallflower Premium adds weather and the calendar — yearly with a two-week free trial and Family Sharing, or monthly. And if subscriptions aren’t for you, Home, Sweet Home unlocks the home features with a one-time purchase.

Wallflower is on all day, every day. No app in your home runs longer. To keep developing it, as we have since 2019, we charge a subscription.

User Reviews

I wanted to use this to repurpose my old iPhone 12 Pro Max as a home dashboard mounted on the wall. Which means you’d use its great functionality to allow interaction without authentication. But this allows anyone INCLUDING A BURGLAR to turn a home alarm you’ve bridged into HomeKit off with no authentication. The developer could fix this easily enough as they already have an option to require a passcode to change app settings. They could require that passcode to turn off a home alarm. (Apple lets you voice command Siri to arm a connected home alarm. But if you tell Siri to turn off the alarm it will require you to continue on an iPhone that presumably is locked or wouldn’t be there for a burglar to begin with. So Wallflower as is defeats the protection Apple intended for the way they expect someone to use an iPhone. But Wallflower developers could fix this security hole easily enough.)

I like the app but it would be perfect if we could access the cameras and or doorbell video
