Features & Capabilities

Wise Photos is a Chrome extension that helps you make photos beautiful by overlaying 15 artistic composition rules on your shots. It brings timeless rules used by photographers, painters, and designers into an easy-to-use tool, complete with tips and examples for each rule.

New Harmonic Armature gives full control over overlays—adjust size, aspect ratio, and position to fit any canvas or photo. Wise Photos is freemium: you get two rules for free (Rule of Thirds and Symmetry) and can unlock the full 15-rule package for permanent access.

User Reviews

Wise Photos provides easy, teachable composition templates that improve photo quality and offer reference copies, making it valuable for students, teachers, and social media users. However, users report stability issues, obstructive branding/watermarks, and a limited in-app editing toolkit that necessitates external editors for full alignment.
Pros
  • Clear, accessible composition templates that improve photo quality and support teaching.
  • Easy to use and quickly improves photo quality for photography, painting references, and social media.
  • Guides show composition rules with quick-to-understand guidelines for each rule.
  • Saves two versions of a photo: the edited image and a reference copy with the grid.
  • Helpful for cropping and emphasizing the most dramatic part of a shot.
Cons
  • Stability issues: frequent crashes and launches failing.
  • Obtrusive branding and watermark on saved images; bottom overlay obscures photos.
  • Limited in-app editing features; tilt and custom crop are missing; external apps needed for full alignment.

I’m an art teacher. This app complements my visual composition lessons. Every visual artist should be familiar with composition, and this app makes it simple and accessible.

I got this app to improve my composition and cropping for my photography to be used on my paintings. My photography is way better now, more intentional, and it is perfect for painting 📷🎨🖼️

Not pleased with paying $5 just for the bottom of the image to be obscured by a white brick that reads “dynamic symmetry”. It’s also weird I can’t overlay multiple grids. Dynamic symmetry has lines that go through the X’s. In order to replicate that I have to save the dynamic symmetry grid, trim the “wise photos” tag on the bottom, re-upload, then apply the cubed grid. I feel that if you’re going to charge people, it should be a little smoother to use those features and we shouldn’t be subject to the bottom of the photos being covered. Edit: I don’t appreciate being gaslit. Maybe NOW the logo doesn’t impede the photo but when I wrote this review a year ago, it very much did. Changed from a 3 star to a to a 1 star for that. Don’t come to me a year later trying to make it seem like I’m lying.
