Overview

Features & Capabilities

WorkingHours is a flexible time tracker and timesheet app for freelancers, employees, contractors, consultants, and hourly workers. Start, pause, and stop timers, automatically subtract breaks, split overnight sessions, or add and edit work entries manually. Organize time by projects and tasks, then add tags, notes, hourly rates, overtime, fixed fees, and custom adjustment rules.

Review work patterns with duration and revenue charts, search and filter records, and export timesheets to Excel or CSV. Group data by day, week, month, task, or tag, or create PDF invoices with SubTotal. Widgets, Apple Watch controls, notifications, NFC tags, geofencing, Pomodoro sessions, Shortcuts, and calendar integration make tracking easier. Optional sync works through iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or WebDAV, with no account required. Pro features include a 7-day trial and a one-time purchase on Apple platforms.

User Reviews

Reviewers widely praise WorkingHours for being easy to use, reliable, and purpose-built for time tracking. It supports multi-projects, multiple clients, tagging, and helps track billable hours (with invoicing through a sister app). Fans appreciate the one-time purchase model and a clean, intuitive UI. It’s valued across platforms with strong cross-device usefulness. Reported downsides include occasional bugs (timer sync issues), geofence detection unreliability, and per-platform pricing. Overall, a solid choice for freelancers and contractors with room for reliability improvements.
Pros
  • Easy to use and intuitive interface.
  • Reliable time tracking across multiple projects, clients, and tagging.
  • Cross-platform compatibility and syncing (iPhone, Mac, etc.).
  • Supports billing for contractors, including tracking billable hours and invoicing via a sister app.
  • One-time purchase with no subscription (perceived good value).
Cons
  • Occasional bugs and cross-device timer sync issues (e.g., timer not stopping on one device).
  • Workplace detection/geofence feature can be erratic or unreliable.
  • Per-platform pricing rather than a single license can be off-putting or confusing.

This app is such a time (and money) saver for freelancers and hourly employees responsible for reporting their own time. Especially the native export to Subtotal invoicing feature really makes this a remarkable program. And it's one-time-purchase, which means no subscriptions. I also like that it calculates how much you make per shift for lump-sum positions. I used that feature to know if I actually make minimum wage as an extracurricular coach at a public school, and I can now confidently confirm that I make slightly above minimum, so yay! I own a copy of the pro version of this and Subtotal on my phone, macbook, and work phone. Even buying it 3 times, it's still worth it.
