User Reviews

Reviews consistently praise the Electribe Wave for its high-quality sound and intuitive groovebox workflow, with strong praise for AU3 support and cross-app use. However, recurring concerns center on patch backup/export limitations, stability issues after updates, and limited import/ customization options (own samples, custom waveforms). There’s also mention of missing undo and AU3 parity with the standalone version. Overall, it’s a capable instrument with solid live/portable appeal, tempered by reliability and feature-parity drawbacks.
Pros
  • Excellent sound engine with thick, deep, and versatile tones including strong drums.
  • Intuitive, studio-like workflow with easy pattern chaining and a powerful mixer/sequencer.
  • AU3 (Audio Unit) support adds significant value and broad integration with other apps.
  • Standalone and AU3 operation with efficient CPU usage, plus good hardware controller compatibility.
  • Overall groovebox experience feels instrument-like and highly engaging.
Cons
  • Patch backup/export limitations: backups don’t save patches, patch export isn’t available, and cloud/iCloud export options are lacking.
  • Stability issues after updates: reports of crashes or splash-screen hangs that can render the app unusable.
  • Limited ability to load own samples or draw custom waveforms for wave tables, restricting creative possibilities.
  • Lack of undo during editing can slow experimentation and editing rounds.
  • AU3 version still lacks some features present in the standalone app (e.g., drums, saved patterns/presets) for parity.

I wish it had more modulation capabilities beyond the motion which is pretty cool. How do I randomize to modulate? Sample and Hold type of randomness would really add to the power of this. Also, how can I choose the probability, velocity, and etc of individual steps in the drums? This would help with the power and capability immensely. I want to record the Kaoss pad motion and use that as modulation.

Edit: Korg responded, and GUESS WHAT!!!!!!! *The backup DOES NOT BACKUP PATCHES!!!!!! I lost *ALL* my patches thanks to restoring!!!!! THAT’S WHY YOU GOT ONE STAR!!!!! ALSO WHY CAN’t YOU JUST SYNC SITH ICLOUD, at least provide a different export, what a joke. WHY CAN’T WE EXPORT PATCHES?!?!? FIX THIS AND I’ll CHANGE MY RATING. FOR THE PRICE WE PAID, THIS IS UNNACEPTABLE.

This app has really impressed me tbh. I had never used an Electribe, only a Groovebox. For what it is, it’s pretty cool. It has a pretty great sound first of all. It doesn’t sound cheap. It has some very thick, deep, gritty sounds in it. And some great drum sounds. It sounds crisp and clear. It’s fairly user friendly. Learning to create songs by chaining patterns wasn’t too difficult. I really like how there’s an optional 8 measures to work with. And the keys are quite responsive to touch on here which has been cool. It’s been fun learning to use it. I still haven’t been able to sync it with my other gear though. That’s one of my main obstacles with it now. Other than that I think it’s pretty great.
