I can not say whether the insect was male or female . All I know is that within seconds of turning on the app -building location where I was at the time , the app attracted the annoying flying biting bug that was in my room. it landed on my hand as I held my iPad with the open Mosquito Controll app. And I slapped the bug dead. Watch the diagram pictures closely because it gives you clues about the app interface. I turned the building on & off. Volume high & low. There is not English interface and avoid touching the coffe cup in the left upper hand corner, it locks you onto an upgrade which it a little annoying to cancel.
