Review summary

Reviewers consistently praise Dark Parables: Salt Princess for its stunning visuals, engaging fairytale storytelling, and long, puzzle-rich gameplay with beautiful hidden-object sequences. Many praise cross-platform appeal (PC and iOS) and the game's depth. However, multiple players report significant downsides: crashes and stability issues, distracting ads after purchase, a confusing map with excessive backtracking, heavy dialogue that isn't easily skipable, and mobile performance problems including choppy audio and imprecise touch controls. Overall, strong aesthetics and storytelling are balanced by reliability and usability drawbacks on mobile.
Pros
  • Beautiful visuals and artwork with rich colors
  • Engaging story that fits the Dark Parables vibe
  • Long, puzzle-rich gameplay with substantial content
  • Strong cross-platform appeal (PC and iOS) and quality adaptation
  • Hidden-object puzzles are lovely and well-designed
Cons
  • Crashes and stability issues (startup crashes and in-game crashes)
  • Ad pop-ups appear even after purchase
  • Confusing map and navigation with many rooms/backtracking
  • Dialog-heavy with long, non-skippable text
  • Mobile performance problems: choppy audio and imprecise touch controls

2022-11-19 Bt***** I love every dark parables games. But it has been years since new ones have come out on iPad. I see more new games every day for Mac and pc. What I would like to know is will there ever be any new ones for those who play on iPads?

2021-11-13 Li***** I don’t often play these games on a phone since they’re richly detailed and better on a bigger screen, but the phone version of this game was terribly disappointing! I only played the first couple of minutes but I noticed that several sound effects and voices were missing, while others worked fine. For example: voice on the recording at the beginning, which is in every Dark Parables game, was silent. It was choppy and distracting. I can’t recommend this to anyone.

2020-08-08 Sp***** Gorgeous use of color and shape. The story is aimed at very young people, but the puzzles are sometimes demanding. Something for all ages.

2020-06-05 Jr***** The items are microscopic. You cant see half the stuff. Then it doesn't go close to areas you supposed to interact with, you’re supposed to tap everything and read the messages on too many areas in order to know its an area you need to interact with. Makes no sense. If the areas are interactive show them, zoom up to them so we know its part of the game.

2020-01-13 Pe***** The graphics were very nice and it was challenging. What frustrated me was all the different locations in this game. I am used to having to go back to locations and rooms to complete objectives, but this was way overdone. This game had so many locations that it got to a point where I was constantly having trouble finding the locations. I used the maps but it would have helped if you could click on the room on the map and it would take you there. Instead, it gave you the name of the room and a small picture, but it got confusing the deeper you went into the game. I say this because sometimes you had to go back at least 15 locations to complete a task. Many of the locations were initially hidden so it made it very difficult. It got kind of boring trying to find the locations. I started just hitting hint and letting the game take me there. Normally, I try not to ever use the hint feature, but like I said, it just got frustrating. Some of the rooms would close up too and then you would have to find another way to enter. One other thing that was really frustrating was that you had to really hold the inventory items in the exact spot and for a few seconds for it to take hold. There were so many times in this game where I would take an item from my inventory and place it where I thought it needed to go (more than once) and it would not accept it. I have a newer iPad so I don’t think it was my tablet. Eventually, I had to hit the hint feature and it would work finally. I was just forced to use hint for inventory items that I had tried already in those places, but it was really touchy and had to be in the exact spot and held there for a few seconds longer than normal. I am just glad I finished the game finally.
