©Neurogut 2018 FECAL INCONTINENCE STOOL DIARY INSTRUMENT

Basic description: The Fecal Incontinence Stool Diary Instrument (FISDI) is a list of patient-reported symptoms for the evaluation of accidental stool leakage also known as fecal Incontinence, and other bowel problems associated with this condition. Fecal incontinence affects 9% of the adult US population and at least 25% of nursing home residents. Fecal incontinence is associated with multiple bowel and stool-related symptoms. Because of the irregular and unpredictable nature of bowel habit, including accidental loss of stool and or gas, and difficulty with either remembering or recalling these symptoms, a prospective assessment of patient-reported bowel and stooling-related symptoms is important, both for use in clinical trials, and for the assessment of patients with fecal incontinence.

User Reviews

I believe this app has a lot of potential… it’s stable and does what it purports to do. However, I do not see how well the data collection meets all six dimensions of clinical data quality: accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, validity, and uniqueness. Most glaringly: some questions are ambiguous while others really don’t capture the details that would make a client’s answer „complete“…. There are other nitpicks I’d make but I don’t think they’re worth noting here. On the plus side; the app is very stable, lightweight and easy to use. I would like to see the developer add the ability to correct entries even if on for a limited period after submission. The reporting feature is a tad clunky, but works. It would be nice to allow participants a limited period to add any missed days or at least confirm that they didn’t complete a day because there was no entry to be made. Perhaps a notification asking the participant if they would like to add an entry at the end of the day? Or a reminder feature for when an entry hasn’t been made by a certain hour of the day?

Horrible tool to document fecal incontinence. Ambiguous questions asked. Some questions uninterpretable. Unanswerable questions. No way to edit responses (correct mistakes). No way to make an entry for a prior day. For example, I may not have made an entry at 11pm when I should have, if, for example, If forgot, or I did not have my phone with me. When the clock strikes twelve, I can no longer make that entry. I cannot imagine that this tool can provide valid, useful information.
