Railmap for Open Railway Map

Explore global train tracks

Features & Capabilities

Railmap for Open Railway Map lets you explore the world through train tracks with three map layers: STANDARD, SPEED, and SIGNALS. STANDARD shows the global rail network, SPEED gives a sense of travel speeds on various tracks, and SIGNALS reveals detailed signs and signals along routes. Switch between these layers to study railway infrastructure across regions.

Railmap also caches places you’ve viewed on your device so they load even faster on subsequent visits. Built on Open Railway Map data, it’s ideal for rail enthusiasts, researchers, and travelers who want quick, zoomable access to track layouts around the globe.

User Reviews

Users praise Railmap for Open Railway Map for broad coverage of current and abandoned lines and effective overlay against maps, making it a top choice for railfans and historians. They value finding defunct railbeds and the large number of lines. However, recurring issues detract from the experience: signals often don’t display; zoom/loading glitches and disappearing tracks; the overlay can obscure detail; offline access is lacking and location-based search is limited, with regional gaps. Addressing offline support, reliability, and search capabilities would significantly improve the app.
Pros
  • Covers current and abandoned lines with a large catalog of rail lines.
  • Helps locate defunct railroads and historic rail beds.
  • Rail lines overlay well on maps or satellite imagery for easy visualization.
  • Easy to keep on the home screen and generally reliable for railfans.
  • Wide appeal for rail enthusiasts and historians due to visualization and planning usefulness.
Cons
  • Signals don’t display, which is a major missing feature for railfan use.
  • Map/track data glitches: zooming can fail to load tracks and data may disappear over time.
  • Overlay blocks detail; users want an option to view without the overlay for closer inspection.
  • No offline data support; relies on data connection and downloads can be slow.
  • Incomplete regional coverage and limited location/station search; gaps in some areas (e.g., certain regions in the US).

out of all the other railroad apps I’ve used this one is the best! it shows the current and abandoned lines, which is so helpful with my interest in finding old rail beds and sights. has so many rail lines listed, so great!!
