User Reviews

PiHelper is praised for managing multiple Raspberry Pis with built‑in SSH/FTP, a clean UI, a useful dashboard, and one‑click commands. However, it suffers from reliability and compatibility problems on current Pi OS versions (Bookworm) due to lack of updates, with frequent connection failures and encryption/cipher compatibility issues. A notable privacy concern is automatic clipboard pasting on launch. Overall, its features are strong, but reliability on newer hardware/software limits its usefulness without updates.
Pros
  • Manage multiple Raspberry Pis from a single app with an intuitive interface.
  • Built-in SSH and FTP with easy terminal access and file management.
  • Clean, friendly UI with a pleasant, elegant design.
  • Dashboard-style overview of CPU, memory, disk usage, and temperatures for quick monitoring.
  • Quick run commands / one-click maintenance (no in-app purchases required).
Cons
  • Frequent connection failures and the app often not working after Raspberry Pi OS updates.
  • Outdated app with little to no updates, leading to incompatibility with Bookworm and newer Pi versions.
  • Clipboard data pasted automatically when opening the app (privacy/security concern).
  • SSH login issues due to encryption/cipher compatibility with newer systems, causing passwords/keys to fail.

I performed a reasonable amount of troubleshooting before posting. It seems this app does not work. I am confident that all of my machine configurations are accurate and that the problem is within the PiHelper app.

Connection failed tap to retry message seen when trying ssh. My hunch is that the app doesn’t support the newer and more secure ciphers, cipher suites, and/or other algorithms on devices with up to date OS. One not so secure option is to edit the Pi to accept and use older ciphers or find a new app.

This used to be a great app however in iOS 18.5 it doesn’t seem to work either with the password or private key. as of the date of this review the app has not been updated in four years. Here is hoping to develop her will come back and work his or her magic again.
