Features & Capabilities

The LEGO Powered Up Chrome extension lets you control LEGO Powered Up components via Bluetooth, including the Batmobile and LEGO City trains. Drive, turn, and trigger sounds while you code movements using a drag‑and‑drop interface.

Bring models to life with hubs, motors, sensors and lights, customize tricks and sounds, and program real‑world behaviors. Check device compatibility at LEGO.com/devicecheck and remember to ask for parental permission before going online.

User Reviews

Users like LEGO Powered Up for its programmable blocks and enhanced features like sound, lights, and speed control, plus easy setup. However, reports of Bluetooth dropouts, compatibility issues with newer devices, an oversized app, and limited in-app guidance undermine reliability, especially for motor control and widget functionality after updates.
Pros
  • Programmable blocks and pre-made controls expand what you can do with Powered Up builds.
  • Sound effects, lights, and speed control enhance play and immersion.
  • Easy initial installation and setup for many users.
  • Enjoyable results on certain sets (e.g., trains) when the app connects reliably.
Cons
  • Frequent Bluetooth connections drop or become unstable.
  • Compatibility and update issues with newer devices/iOS versions and some sets.
  • Lack of in-app tutorials or clear explanations of blocks and functions.
  • Extremely large app size (around 1 GB+).
  • Reliability problems with motors and widgets after updates.

If you’re familiar with the old NXT era programs, this isn’t too hard to figure out. As software, it’s a little less janky, but also a bit less functional. I wish you could name variables, copy/paste blocks, etc. The biggest downside is that there is no way to send or receive programs. I made a complicated controller in the app, and it only exists on my phone. I can’t send it to an iPad, I can’t send it to my friend to try, it’s just stuck there. Please add import/export functionality, or just sharing functionality
