User reviews show that SLCPL is valued for mobile library access and renewal indicators, but suffers from persistent search and loading problems after updates. Many users report endless 'checking' or spinning when searching or opening catalog entries, sometimes forcing them to use a browser. Login/session persistence and saving card numbers are problematic, and holds management is frustrating (cannot cancel holds; clutter from filled/returned holds). Also, due dates and overdue statuses are not clearly shown. Overall, the app is desired but requires substantial stability and UX improvements.

Pros

General usefulness and appreciation for mobile library access.
Shows renewals remaining.
Home page and account information load after updates.

Cons

Catalog search and item loading are slow or never load (infinite 'checking' or spinning).
Login/session persistence is poor and the app does not save the library card number.
Holds management is clunky: cannot cancel holds and the holds list cluttered with filled/cancelled holds.
Due dates and overdue information are not displayed.

Recent reviews

The app allows me to place holds on items on in the Library catalog. Most recent example is “Arrow. The complete seventh season. “ put a hold on it in the app, waited a couple weeks an decided to check it on the website, turns out this item is not at any library, doesn’t come up in web search at all. If I knew it wasn’t available two weeks ago I would have ordered it from thrift books or something instead of waiting for a hold that can never be filled.

I use this app exclusively on mobile. I’ve experienced really long lags when searching for a title. I can search for the book but when it pulls up and I click on the “show editions” and click on the book option, it just keep trying to load the link where I can reserve the book but instead keeps doing the spinning search/loading thing. I also use the SL County library app and it doesn’t have this problem despite likely using similar or same developers and library resources. I think 1-2 years ago both apps underwent a redesign and the County library app had the same experiences I’m getting now but with the City library app. Please figure out what’s going on. I love the library!!
